Target Information
BNC1 is a 994 amino acid transcription factor specific for squamous epithelium and keratinocytes at early stages of terminal differentiation. It is a zinc finger protein with three pairs of zinc fingers and a nuclear localization signal.
BNC1 shuttles between nucleus and cytoplasm depending on cellular proliferation potential. It is expressed in basal epidermal cells, hair follicles, and germ cells of testis and ovary. Lower expression is observed in thymus, spleen, mammary glands, placenta, brain, and heart.
BNC1 plays a regulatory role in keratinocyte proliferation, rRNA transcription, and differentiation of spermatozoa and oocytes.
