YY1 is a ubiquitously distributed transcription factor belonging to the GLI-Kruppel class of zinc finger proteins. It functions as both a transcriptional activator and repressor of multiple promoters. YY1 may recruit histone deacetylases or histone acetyltransferases to modulate promoter activity, linking histone modification to transcription regulation.
