Target Information

Islet, or insulinoma, amyloid polypeptide (Amylin) is commonly found in pancreatic islets of patients suffering from type II diabetes mellitus or harboring an insulinoma. While the association of Amylin with type II diabetes has been known for some time, its direct causative role remains unclear. Studies suggest that Amylin, similar to beta-amyloid (Abeta) involved in Alzheimer’s disease, can induce apoptotic cell death in cultured cells, potentially contributing to type II diabetes development.
