Target Information
The TYR-related proteins, TRP1 and TRP2, are specifically expressed in melanocytes and contribute to melanin synthesis within melanosomes. These TYR family proteins share similar transmembrane regions, metal-binding sites, and cysteine-rich EGF motifs localized in the melanosomal membrane. Each protein has distinct catalytic activity, collectively forming a multi-enzyme complex that stabilizes TYR and supports melanin biopolymer biosynthesis.
