Target Information

SRC2 (steroid receptor coactivator 2), also known as NCOA2 or TIF2, functions as a coactivator for nuclear hormone receptors. These receptors are conditional transcription factors that regulate gene expression related to cell growth, development, and homeostasis.
Members of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily have three domains:

  1. N-terminal transcriptional activation domain
  2. Central DNA-binding domain
  3. C-terminal hormone-binding domain

Before hormone binding, steroid receptors remain inactive in complexes with heat-shock protein-90 and other stress proteins. Hormone binding induces conformational changes that activate receptors, enabling DNA binding and transcriptional modulation. Coactivator proteins like SRC2 mediate transcription initiation after receptor binding.
