Target Information
Breast tumors are initially dependent on estrogens for growth and progression and can be inhibited by anti-estrogens such as tamoxifen. However, breast cancers often become resistant to these treatments. The breast cancer anti-estrogen resistance gene 3 (BCAR3) encodes a protein involved in intracellular signal transduction that promotes estrogen-independent proliferation in human breast cancer cells. The protein contains a putative SH2 domain, characteristic of tyrosine kinase signaling molecules, and shares partial homology with the CDC48 cell division cycle protein.
