Target Information
This protein belongs to the lipocalin family and serves as the specific carrier for retinol (vitamin A) in the blood. It transports retinol from liver stores to peripheral tissues. In plasma, the RBP-retinol complex interacts with transthyretin, preventing renal loss through glomerular filtration. Vitamin A deficiency can block post-translational secretion of this binding protein, impairing retinol delivery to epidermal cells.
