Target Information

Sorting nexin (SNX) proteins are members of a large family of hydrophilic PX (phospholipid-binding motif) domain-containing proteins that interact with various receptor types. SNXs are widely expressed, though tissue distribution varies by SNX mRNA. Their ability to bind specific phospholipids and form protein-protein complexes suggests roles in cellular membrane trafficking and protein sorting. SNXs may function in pro-degradative sorting, internalization, endosomal recycling, or endosomal sorting. Despite their hydrophilic nature, SNXs partially associate with cellular membranes. SNX8 is an ortholog of a yeast protein.
