CAMK4 (CaMKIV) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that phosphorylates CREB, oncoprotein 18, and SRF.
It is involved in transcriptional regulation in lymphocytes, neurons, and male germ cells.
The nuclear localization supports its role in calcium-dependent gene expression.
CaMKIV is abundant in testis, T-cells, and neurons, and plays roles in synaptic plasticity and calcium signaling.
It affects transcriptional regulators such as NFAT and may participate in chromatin remodeling during spermatid nuclear condensation.
