Target Information
Dio-1 (Death Inducer-Obliterator-1) is a putative transcription factor containing two zinc finger motifs. Dio-1 translocates to the nucleus and activates apoptosis during limb development. Programmed cell death plays an essential role in shaping tissues and defining digits. Dio-1 expression increases upon apoptotic signaling and induces apoptosis, similar to NFkB and NGF responses. Expression is suppressed by caspase inhibitors and Bcl-2, supporting its role in programmed cell death initiation.
