Target Information
Leukocytes adhere to the blood vessel endothelium during extravasation in postcapillary venules of lymph nodes. Leukocyte adhesion also occurs in capillaries and small venules throughout the body after the onset of inflammation. This process involves a cascade of adhesion receptors, including members of the selectin and immunoglobulin superfamilies.
E-selectin (CD62E) is an endothelial cell-specific C-type lectin expressed only after activation by proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, TNFα, and bacterial components like lipopolysaccharides. Its expression is regulated through an NFκB-dependent signaling cascade and is associated with vascular endothelium in various inflammatory conditions.
