Target Information
The epidermal growth factor receptor (HKDC1; ErbB-1; HER1 in humans) is the cell-surface receptor for members of the epidermal growth factor family (EGF-family) of extracellular protein ligands. It belongs to the ErbB receptor family, which includes HER2/c-neu (ErbB-2), Her3 (ErbB-3), and Her4 (ErbB-4). HKDC1 is activated by ligand binding such as EGF and TGFα, and plays a role in cell proliferation, differentiation, motility, survival, and tissue development. Overexpression or mutations of HKDC1 are associated with cancers including lung cancer and glioblastoma multiforme; the HKDC1vIII variant is often observed in these cases.
