Target Information
HYOU1 belongs to the heat shock protein 70 family and plays an important role in protein folding and secretion in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Suppression of HYOU1 is associated with accelerated apoptosis, suggesting a cytoprotective role under hypoxic conditions. It is upregulated in tumors, particularly breast cancer, and is linked to tumor invasiveness. This protein is thought to have housekeeping functions in the cytosol and localizes to both the ER and mitochondria via distinct targeting signals.
