Target Information
Bromodeoxyuridine (5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine, BrdU) is a synthetic nucleoside and an analogue of thymidine. It is widely used for detecting proliferating cells in living tissues. BrdU is incorporated into newly synthesized DNA of replicating cells during the S phase, substituting for thymidine. Antibodies specific to BrdU detect the incorporated chemical, identifying cells actively replicating their DNA. Detection requires DNA denaturation, typically achieved by acid or heat treatment.
