Target Information
Mammalian apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease (APE/ref-1) is a multifunctional enzyme involved in DNA repair and redox regulation of various proteins. APE1 repairs abasic sites in DNA and modulates transcription factors such as Fos, Jun, NF-κB, Myb, HIF-1α, CREB, and Pax. It also influences cell cycle control through p53 and plays roles in apoptosis.
APE1 expression varies by tissue and developmental stage, with regulation mediated by phosphorylation via casein kinase II. Elevated APE1 levels are observed in reoxygenated hypoxic cells and certain malignant tissues, while reduced expression is linked to apoptosis induction.
