Target Information
TCF7L2, also known as TCF4, is a high mobility group (HMG) box-containing transcription factor that plays a key role in the Wnt signaling pathway. It regulates pro-glucagon gene expression, influencing glucose homeostasis and GLP-1 production. Genetic variants of TCF7L2 are associated with type 2 diabetes, affecting beta-cell survival and function. Multiple splicing isoforms are differentially expressed during cancer progression, and gene targeting studies show TCF7L2 is essential for maintaining small intestinal crypt stem cells.
