Target Information
Programmed cell death 5 (PDCD5) is a human apoptosis-related protein involved in early and universal stages of apoptosis. PDCD5 is widely expressed and upregulated during apoptosis, translocating from the cytoplasm to the nucleus. It has a compact core structure with mobile alpha-helices and an unstructured C-terminal region. Charged residues contribute to apoptosis promotion and cell translocation. PDCD5 enhances TAJ/TROY-induced cell death and acts as a Tip60 co-activator to promote apoptosis. Polymorphisms in the PDCD5 promoter region may influence susceptibility to certain cancers, including chronic myelogenous leukemia and lung cancer.
