Product Specific Information
This antibody detects endogenous levels of total LRP2 protein.
Target Information
The protein encoded by the LRP2 gene, also known as megalin, is a multi-ligand endocytic receptor expressed in various tissues, mainly in absorptive epithelial tissues such as the kidney.
It has a large amino-terminal extracellular domain, a single transmembrane domain, and a short carboxy-terminal cytoplasmic tail.
The extracellular ligand-binding domains interact with diverse macromolecules including albumin, apolipoproteins B and E, and lipoprotein lipase.
LRP2 plays a critical role in the reuptake of ligands such as lipoproteins, sterols, vitamin-binding proteins, and hormones.
It is also involved in cell signaling, binding extracellular ligands such as parathyroid hormones and sonic hedgehog, and cytosolic ligands including MAP kinase scaffold proteins and JNK interacting proteins.
Recycling of this receptor is regulated by phosphorylation of its cytoplasmic domain.
Mutations in this gene are associated with Donnai-Barrow syndrome (DBS) and facio-oculoacoustico-renal syndrome (FOAR).
