Target Information
Escherichia coli (E. coli) are Gram-negative enteric bacteria that live in the human gut. Their presence in nature indicates human fecal pollution.

E. coli are distinguished immunologically by serotyping based on three types of antigen:
- O antigen: terminal sugars on cell surface lipopolysaccharide
- K antigen: capsular antigens
- H antigen: flagellar antigens
