Target Information
The PKC (Protein Kinase C) family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCB1 (PKC beta I), is activated by intracellular signal transduction pathways.
At least 12 PKC isoforms have been identified in humans, differing in structure, distribution, localization, and substrate specificity.
PKC alpha, beta I, beta II, and gamma form the conventional family, which is Ca²⁺- and phospholipid-dependent.
PKC family members phosphorylate various protein targets, participating in diverse signaling pathways and serving as receptors for phorbol esters (tumor promoters).
PKC beta I is implicated in B cell activation, apoptosis induction, endothelial cell proliferation, and intestinal sugar absorption. Mouse studies suggest roles in neuronal regulation and stress-related behavior.
Alternative splicing results in distinct isoforms.
