Sulfotransferase 효소는 다양한 호르몬, 신경전달물질, 약물 및 외인성 화합물의 황산화 반응을 촉매합니다. 이러한 세포질 효소들은 조직 분포와 기질 특이성이 다르며, 유전자 구조(엑손의 수와 길이)는 가족 간 유사합니다.
SULT1C2는 SULT1 하위 패밀리에 속하며, PAPS로부터 페놀 화합물에 황산기를 전달하는 역할을 합니다. 특히 hydroxyarylamines에 대한 특이성을 보이며, p-nitrophenol 및 N-hydroxy-2-acetylaminofluorene의 황산화를 촉매하지만 dopamine에는 작용하지 않습니다.
