Target Information
The serum amyloid A (SAA) family includes several apolipoproteins such as acute-phase SAA1 and SAA2, with SAA1 being the major plasma component. The liver is the primary site of synthesis, though extrahepatic production occurs. SAA levels can increase up to 1000-fold during inflammation. It is valuable for disease diagnosis and monitoring, often rising earlier and more sharply than CRP. Recent studies suggest a broader physiological role for SAA.
