Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of two main subcomplexes: the 20S core and the 19S regulator.
- The 20S core consists of four rings containing 28 non-identical subunits (two rings of seven alpha subunits and two rings of seven beta subunits).
- The 19S regulator includes a base (six ATPase and two non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to ten non-ATPase subunits).
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and degrade peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome variant plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides.
This gene encodes a non-ATPase subunit of the 19S regulator; two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified, and pseudogenes exist on chromosomes 3 and 20.
