Target Information
Guanylate cyclase-activating proteins (GCAPs) are calcium-binding proteins belonging to the calmodulin superfamily. GCAPs without calcium activate photoreceptor guanylate cyclase during light adaptation. The addition or removal of Ca²⁺ induces conformational changes that regulate GCAP-1 and GCAP-2 activity. Both GCAP-1 and GCAP-2 show approximately 50% sequence homology and act similarly on guanylate cyclase. GCAP-1 is mainly localized in photoreceptor outer segments, while GCAP-2 is found in retina samples.
