Target Information
This potassium channel is controlled by G proteins. Inward rectifier potassium channels preferentially allow potassium ions to flow into the cell rather than out. Their voltage dependence is influenced by extracellular potassium concentration, shifting channel opening to more positive voltages as external potassium increases. Inward rectification results mainly from blockage of outward current by internal magnesium. This receptor is crucial for regulating the heartbeat.
