Background
Potassium channels are present in most mammalian cells and are involved in various physiological responses. The protein encoded by this gene is an integral membrane protein functioning as an inward-rectifier potassium channel, facilitating potassium influx. It can form heterodimers with other inward-rectifier potassium channels and may play a role in fluid and pH balance regulation. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified for this gene (RefSeq, Apr 2014).
