GARS는 glycyl-tRNA synthetase로, tRNA에 해당 아미노산을 결합시키는 aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase 중 하나입니다. 이 단백질은 class II tRNA synthetase 계열에 속하는 (α)₂ 이합체 형태로 존재합니다. 또한 인간 자가면역질환인 다발근염(polymyositis)과 피부근염(dermatomyositis)에서 자가항체의 표적 단백질로 알려져 있습니다.
