Target Information
The HSP70 family comprises highly conserved proteins induced by various biological stresses, including heat shock, across all organisms.
Human HSP70 family members include:
- HSP70: Strongly inducible and constitutively expressed in primate cells
- HSP72: Induced exclusively under stress conditions
- HSC70: Constitutively expressed 72 kDa protein involved in clathrin-coated vesicle uncoating
- GRP78 (BiP): 78 kDa glucose-regulated protein localized in the endoplasmic reticulum
- p75 (HSP75): 75 kDa mitochondrial protein
HSC70 (also known as HSC71, HSC73, HSP73, p72, prp73) is constitutively expressed and slightly heat-inducible. It binds clathrin light chain loops to promote uncoating and interacts with the cytoskeleton to facilitate rearrangements. HSC70 also stimulates lysosomal degradation of intracellular proteins and modulates aggregation and folding of mitochondrial precursors in vitro.
