Target Information
KAL1 (Anosmin-1) is an extracellular matrix-associated glycosylated protein linked to Kallmann Syndrome (KS), an X-linked genetic disorder characterized by anosmia (loss of smell) and delayed puberty due to abnormal olfactory bulb development and disrupted migration of gonadotropin-releasing hormone neurons.
Anosmin-1 binds FGFR1 via its N-terminal cysteine-rich domain, whey-acidic protein-like domain, and first FnIII repeat with the D2 and D3 ectodomains of FGFR1. It is suggested that Anosmin-1 modulates FGFR1 signaling and influences the formation and activation of the FGF2–FGFR1–heparin complex.
