이 유전자는 염색체 19번에 위치한 15개의 칼리크레인 서브패밀리 멤버 중 하나로, 표피의 최외층 탈락(Desquamation) 과정에서 세포 간 결합 구조의 단백질 분해에 관여하는 효소를 암호화합니다.
대체 스플라이싱을 통해 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사 변형체가 생성됩니다.
