Target Information

The Fbx32 gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family, characterized by a ~40 amino acid F-box motif. These proteins are subunits of the SCF ubiquitin ligase complex, functioning in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination. F-box proteins are classified into three groups:

  • Fbws with WD-40 domains
  • Fbls with leucine-rich repeats
  • Fbxs with other interaction modules or no recognizable motifs

Fbx32 belongs to the Fbxs class and contains an F-box domain. It is highly expressed during muscle atrophy, and mice deficient in this gene show resistance to atrophy. Therefore, Fbx32 is a potential drug target for muscle atrophy treatment. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
