Target Information
The ARSA gene encodes a protein that hydrolyzes cerebroside sulfate to cerebroside and sulfate.
Defects in this gene cause metachromatic leucodystrophy, a progressive demyelination disease leading to neurological symptoms and death.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described for this gene.
