Target Information
RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical kinase catalytic domains that phosphorylates several residues of the S6 ribosomal protein. p70 S6 kinase is predominantly localized in the cytoplasm and plays a crucial role in growth factor-regulated cell proliferation, cell motility pathways, immune response, and tissue repair.
It acts downstream of phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase, and its main physiological target is the S6 ribosomal protein, which is involved in upregulation of protein synthesis. The kinase activity of p70 S6 kinase leads to increased protein synthesis and cell proliferation. Amplification and overexpression of the DNA region encoding p70 S6 kinase are observed in some breast cancer cell lines.
