This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of CD324 / E-cadherin, an approximately 100 kDa epithelial cell adhesion molecule. Detection of this molecule is important for determining the invasive potential of epithelial neoplasms.
Target Information
E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin) is a classical cadherin belonging to the calcium-dependent adhesion protein superfamily. It is a cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail.
Mutations in the CDH1 gene, which encodes E-cadherin, are associated with gastric, breast, colorectal, thyroid, and ovarian cancers. Loss or reduction of E-cadherin expression correlates with increased tumor invasion and metastasis.
E-cadherin plays a central role in maintaining epithelial tissue architecture and integrity, and its ectodomain mediates bacterial adhesion to mammalian cells.
