Target Information
TRPA1 is a TRP-related ion channel responsive to cold temperatures and pungent compounds. It plays roles in nociceptor and hair cell transduction. TRPA1 is associated with transformation in lung epithelia and is primarily expressed in sensory neurons. Blocking TRPA1 may help treat cold hyperalgesia caused by inflammation or nerve damage. TRPA1 is also expressed outside the CNS and is dysregulated during oncogenic transformation. Its structure relates to ankyrin and transmembrane proteins, and it may function in signal transduction and growth control.
