Target Information
Septin 2 is a filament-forming cytoskeletal GTPase required for normal organization of the actin cytoskeleton. It contributes to the biogenesis of polarized columnar-shaped epithelium by maintaining polyglutamylated microtubules, facilitating efficient vesicle transport, and preventing MAP4 binding to tubulin. Septin 2 is essential for mitotic progression, forming a scaffold at the mitotic spindle midplane to maintain CENPE localization and ensure chromosome congression. During anaphase, it supports chromosome segregation and spindle elongation. Septin 2 also plays roles in ciliogenesis and collective cell movement.
