HSD17B10 유전자는 short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase superfamily에 속하는 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase type II를 암호화합니다.
이 단백질은 미토콘드리아에서 다양한 지방산, 알코올, 스테로이드의 산화를 촉매하며, 알츠하이머병 발병과 관련되어 있습니다.
유전자 변이는 2-methyl-3-hydroxybutyryl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (MHBD)를 유발합니다.
여러 가지 alternative splicing 전사체 변형이 보고되었으며, 그 중 두 가지의 full-length 형태가 규명되었습니다.
