Target Information
Plectin is a major member of the plakin (cytolinker) family, which interlinks different elements of the cytoskeleton. These large, multi-domain proteins play essential roles in maintaining cell and tissue integrity, supporting dynamic changes in cell shape, and serving as scaffolds for signaling complex assembly and regulation.
Plectin is expressed as multiple isoforms from a single gene on human chromosome 8, with isoform expression varying by tissue type and developmental stage. Each cell type contains a unique set of plectin isoforms that perform distinct functions.
