Target Information

Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, is a novel protein associated with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It functions during tight junction maturation rather than as a structural component. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts, with lower expression in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature—one of the common metastatic sites of breast cancer—through its C-terminal extracellular domain. Blocking this domain with antibodies or siRNA has been reported to inhibit breast cancer metastasis.
