Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, which regulates programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, reversing their death repressor activity. Its proapoptotic function is controlled through phosphorylation, involving kinases such as AKT and MAPK, and the phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing produces two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
