Target Information
Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) regulates cell growth, motility, and morphogenesis via activation of the c-Met receptor tyrosine kinase signaling cascade. It is secreted by mesenchymal cells and functions as a multi-functional cytokine on epithelial cells. HGF plays a key role in angiogenesis, tumorogenesis, and tissue regeneration. The inactive precursor is cleaved into a 69-kDa alpha-chain and a 34-kDa beta-chain, forming an active heterodimer linked by a disulfide bond. Although belonging to the plasminogen subfamily of S1 peptidases, it lacks protease activity. Multiple transcript variants are generated by alternative splicing.
