Target Information
Polyspecific organic cation transporters (OCTs) in the liver, kidney, intestine, and other organs are critical for the elimination of endogenous small organic cations and various drugs and toxins.
SLC22A1 is one of three similar cation transporter genes located on chromosome 6. The encoded protein has twelve transmembrane domains and functions as a plasma integral membrane protein. Two transcript variants exist, but only the longer variant encodes a functional transporter.
