Target Information
HOXC11 belongs to the homeobox family of genes, which encode transcription factors crucial for morphogenesis in multicellular organisms. Mammals possess four similar homeobox gene clusters—HOXA, HOXB, HOXC, and HOXD—located on different chromosomes. HOXC11 is part of the cluster on chromosome 12 and binds to the promoter element of lactase-phlorizin hydrolase, potentially playing a role in early intestinal development. An alternatively spliced variant encoding a shorter isoform has been described but its full-length nature has not been determined.
