Target Information
Dicer is a double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) endoribonuclease that plays a central role in short dsRNA-mediated post-transcriptional gene silencing. It cleaves long dsRNAs and short hairpin pre-microRNAs (miRNAs) into 21–23 nucleotide fragments with 3′ overhangs, producing siRNAs and mature miRNAs. These guide the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to complementary RNAs for degradation or translational repression.
RNA interference (siRNA-mediated silencing) regulates the elimination of transcripts from repetitive DNA elements and degradation of exogenous viral RNA, while the miRNA pathway regulates specific gene expression.
