Target Information

Cardiac Troponin I (TnI) is an inhibitory protein in cardiac muscle forming a complex with troponin C (TnC) and troponin T (TnT).
TnT binds to tropomyosin to form a troponin-tropomyosin complex, anchored by TnI binding to actin within muscle thin filaments.
Calcium binding to TnC induces structural changes that release TnI inhibition, enabling myosin attachment and muscle contraction.
Measurement of blood TnI and TnT is a key diagnostic indicator of heart muscle damage, differentiating angina from myocardial infarction.
Cardiac Troponin I also inhibits angiogenesis in vivo and in vitro.
Mutations in the Cardiac Troponin I gene cause familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy type 7 (CMH7) and familial restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCM).
