Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is >95% (by SDS-PAGE).
Target Information
Arylalkylamine N-Acetyltransferase (AANAT) is the penultimate enzyme in melatonin synthesis. Melatonin plays a key role in sleep and circadian rhythm regulation. Large changes in AANAT abundance are responsible for day/night variations in melatonin synthesis in the pineal gland and retina. AANAT activity is mainly regulated by controlling steady-state protein levels, but recent studies suggest additional mechanisms may influence melatonin production independently of AANAT protein levels, explaining the rapid rise in circulating melatonin at the onset of darkness in humans.
