CACNA2D4는 전압 의존성 칼슘 채널 복합체의 alpha-2/delta 서브유닛 계열에 속하는 단백질입니다. 칼슘 채널은 막 탈분극 시 세포 내로 칼슘 이온 유입을 매개하며, alpha-1, alpha-2/delta, beta, gamma 서브유닛으로 구성된 1:1:1:1 복합체 형태를 가집니다. 각 서브유닛은 유사 유전자 또는 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 다양한 버전으로 존재합니다. 토끼에서 연구된 유사 단백질은 alpha-2와 delta 서브유닛으로 절단되는 것으로 보고되었으며, 이 유전자의 대체 전사 스플라이스 변형도 관찰된 바 있습니다.
