Target Information

Protein Kinase C (PKC) isoforms are serine/threonine kinases involved in signal transduction pathways that govern a wide range of physiological processes including differentiation, proliferation, gene expression, brain function, membrane transport, and organization of cytoskeletal and extracellular matrix proteins.
PKC acts as a key regulator of cell cycle transitions (G1, G2 checkpoints) and can have positive or negative control depending on activation timing and isozyme type.
There are at least 12 PKC isoforms in humans: alpha, beta I, beta II, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, theta, iota, lambda, and mu.
PKC beta II is expressed in cardiac muscle, intestinal epithelium, kidney, and pancreas, and is associated with cell cycle progression and cancer proliferation.
