The Zika Virus (ZIKV) is an emerging mosquito-borne virus first identified in Uganda in 1947 in Rhesus monkeys. During outbreaks in French Polynesia and Brazil, health authorities reported neurological and autoimmune complications. Laboratory diagnosis confirms ZIKV infection by detecting viral RNA in blood, urine, or saliva.
