Product Specific Information

Specificity: This antibody is specific for human CD4 and recognises an epitope in the vicinity of a 13-amino acid loop in domain 2 of CD4. It cross-reacts with chimpanzee CD4, but not baboon or macaque CD4.

Target Information

The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is primarily expressed in T helper cells, but also in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. At the tissue level, CD4 expression is found in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and specific regions of brain and gut. CD4 functions to initiate or augment early T-cell activation through association with the T-cell receptor complex and tyrosine kinase Lck. It may also mediate neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
